Daily Cash Management and Live Bank Reconciliation

Cash and Liquidity Management

Avolon have recently implemented the Bank reconciliation module from Salmon TMS

550 of 600 bank accounts report daily by 8am via three host to host connections. This enables efficient cash management on a daily basis and optimises cash yields.

There are approximately 6000 transactions per month over 600 bank accounts and these are not reconciled daily by three different teams.

Benefits of this include:

  • Risk reduction, the final loop on payment security is closed within 24hours, a significant milestone in recovering any fraudulent activity.
  • Faster month end close – this has reduced the month end close by up to five days, manually booking bank statements at month end caused lengthy delays. Speedier month end close leads to faster Management pack which leads in turn to faster decision making.
  • Robust audit trail for the entire process from start to finish.

Key Takeaways and Outcomes:

  • MT940 reporting does not need to be very difficult to set up- evaluate your requirements and make an informed choice Bureau or Bank H2H. Banks can be competitive when priced against each other
  • 2 Daily bank reconciliation is the ultimate final gate for arresting fraudulent activity
  • 3 Month end close can be significantly improved with live bank reconciliations

Optimising Teams’ Output – Diversity and Inclusion

Strategy and Business Partnering

All leaders need an understanding on why diversity and inclusion (D&I) strategy is paramount in optimising teams’ output and increasing company’s competitive edge. The Treasury team, who are not traditionally regarded as change agents can lead the required change and demonstrate the business case to rest of the organisation on D&I. Technical skills are becoming less and less valuable, as artificial intelligent (AI) machines can replace most of complex calculations, the softer skills and ability to motivate and increase productivity of diverse teams needs to be mastered.

Key Outcomes and Takeaways:

  • Diverse teams outperform homogenous teams.
  • It is leadership’s responsibilities to create an environment where new ideas and thoughts are encouraged from all groups.

Optimising team’s output must be a conscious effort with a strategic road map and outline of the “how”.

Best Practice within Improving Working Capital

Cash and Liquidity Management

Working capital is the cheapest source of cash. Its management is fundamental to a company’s financial health and operational success. PwC’s annual global Working Capital Study shows that, if all the companies in the study were to improve their working capital efficiency incrementally, it would represent a cash release of €1.3trn for the global economy.

Extending payment terms often feels like the low-hanging fruit, improving cash flow almost instantly. However, not only do long payment terms cause chaos for suppliers, they also inflate prices with buyers effectively borrowing at their supplier’s cost of credit.

Getting suppliers paid faster is in everyone’s interest. At the same time, we have to be aware of the limitations treasurers are under, and the pressures they face to improve their working capital. Technology can help bridge the gap, enabling even the smallest suppliers to be paid early without change to payment terms, process or technology.

Key Outcomes and Takeaways:

  • Insights from PwC’s annual global Working Capital Study
  • Impact of extending payment terms on you and your suppliers
  • How early invoice payment programmes benefit your business
